Evelyn R. Stevens, 90, passed away on May 31, 2023. She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Stevens of Raleigh, her daughter, Pam Stevens (husband, Jarrett Terry), her grandchild, Melissa Stevens Kirkendall (husband, Trevor Kirkendall) her great grandchild, their son, Gavin Kirkendall, her sisters of Hephzibah, GA, Vivian C. Danforth and Ellen Woods (husband, Forrest Woods). She was predeceased by her son, Douglas M. Stevens, her sister, Virginia Williams and her brother Jack (Bud) Danforth, Jr.
Evelyn was a devout believer in Jesus Christ. The amount of love she gave is evident in her family and the friends that she accumulated. She never met a stranger. Growing up in Augusta, GA she had three sisters and one brother. She moved to NC in the 1950’s, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, directed dramas in the old chapel and was the church librarian at Millbrook Baptist Church for many years. Her love for books was reflected in her job as Library Assistant (Aide) at Ravenscroft Lower School Library for 38 years. During her time there she helped and loved many students, staff, teachers and friends. She painted many murals for the staff and children to enjoy. She loved the Hurricanes Hockey Team. Several students were the children of the players on the team. When she retired in 2012 the Ravenscroft “girls” (many friends) stayed in touch and continued their lasting relationships to the end. In her spare time, she loved gardening and her plants and flowers. Her garden and yard were her paradise.
Evelyn loved celebrations and special events with her family and friends, cooked and gave PURE LOVE ALL THE TIME. All the memories with Richard, Doug, Pam, Jarrett, Melissa, Trevor and Gavin are forever cherished. Her sisters and family in Georgia were always eager to greet her when she visited. Her younger sister Ellen Woods (her husband, Forrest Woods) and Vivian Danforth (now 99!) loved her dearly.
She was always so appreciative of people’s kind deeds as she dealt with her health struggles over the past few years. She loved the staff and nurses at the Cancer Center and Rex Hospital. She called them her angels. Her neighbors and the church members stood by her, many days giving her strength and love.
The cards, prayers and well wishes of so many were always appreciated by Evelyn and her family.
