May 10,1998 - July 13, 2025
Benjamin Fulton Morrissey, age 27, passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2025, in Cary, North Carolina.
Ben was born on May 10, 1998, in Daytona Beach, Florida, to Reid and Theresa Morrissey. He grew up in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 2016, where he was a proud member of both the swim and lacrosse teams. During the summers, Ben worked at Camp Mishawaka, where he enjoyed being outdoors and connecting with others. Each fall, he joined his family for hunting in Blackduck, MN, a tradition he cherished for the time spent in nature and with loved ones.
Ben’s adventurous spirit and deep curiosity about the world led him to study at Iowa State University before exploring life on the West Coast in California. Eventually, he settled in North Carolina, where he continued to pursue his many interests and passions.
A deeply thoughtful and gentle soul, Ben had a unique ability to connect with people and nature alike. He was known for his sweet, caring heart, quiet humor, and sincere kindness. Ben loved the outdoors, often spending hours walking wooded trails or East Coast beaches with his beloved dog, Kenai. His presence was calming, his smile warm, and his companionship deeply cherished.
An independent thinker and quiet observer, Ben was endlessly fascinated by the natural world and could often be found researching topics that piqued his interest. His work at Homewood Greenhouse and Nursery allowed him to thrive in his element—surrounded by plants, trees, and people who shared his love for nature. He developed a deep and impressive knowledge of horticulture and found purpose in cultivating sustainability and a healthy ecosystem.
Ben faced the quiet weight of mental health struggles, a path walked by many with unseen strength. His life and story remind us of the importance of kindness, openness, and supporting one another. In his memory, we encourage continued conversations about mental wellness and compassion for all who are quietly hurting.
He is survived by his loving parents, Theresa and Reid Morrissey; his siblings Megan (Brad Sturk), Mason, and Austin; his grandparents Terry and Kirkie Morrissey; and many extended family and friends who cherished him, including his Minnesota Fulton Family (Mark & Jen, Randy & Maureen, Matt & Tracy, Chris & Johnnie, Doug & Cindy, David & Debbie), Colorado Morrissey Family (Scott & Amy, Mark & Patti), Lindy Brott, and many cousins, whose love and memories will forever carry his spirit forward. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Max and Anne Fulton, and uncle, Ted Fulton.
A celebration of Ben’s life will be held in Grand Rapids, MN, on Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. with a reception to follow, on the beach at Green Heron Bed and Breakfast, 2810 Meyers Bay Rd. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor his memory and the light he brought into the world.
In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a tree in honor of Ben’s love for the environment and passion for making this world a better place.
As we gather to celebrate Ben’s life, we hold close the image of him as he was most himself: the shirtless, barefoot boy in the trees…joyful, curious, and wild-hearted.
