

Punta Gorda, Florida --- Reynolds Prince Cushing, a former Duxbury, Massachusetts resident, died on Tuesday, March 13, 2024 at the Punta Gorda Shore Point Hospital. He was 90yrs. 11mos. 13 days, born in Hartford, Connecticut, 20 March 1933, son of Reynolds Williams and Myrtle Phyllis Phillips, surname changed to Cushing in 1942.
“Ren” grew up in both of the adjoining towns of Duxbury and Marshfield, Massachusetts. While in high school Ren joined the National Guard and as a senior at Marshfield High School, his unit was activated to serve in the Korean War. In 2023 he was selected for the Florida Honor Flight Program.
In 1954, he married in Taunton, Massachusetts, Muriel Louise Curtis and moved to Marshfield, and later to Duxbury. He was a 60-year Mason of the Cornerstone Lodge in Duxbury, a member of the Scottish Rite and later when the couple retired to Florida in 1994, he joined the Charlotte County Shrine Club where he served as President and the Araba Shrine in Fort Myers where he served as Co-Ordinator of Clubs. Ren participated in many of the local heritage societies where he received many awards for his service to the General Society of Mayflower Descendants on Local, State and National Organizations. Ren was also active in the Charlotte County Chapter Sons of the American Revolution where he held the positions of President, historian, and newsletter editor and he served as President of the Jean Calvin Chapter of the National Society of Huguenot Descendants that met in Sarasota.
Ren was known for his leadership, humility and quick humor as he traveled statewide to many of the seventeen Florida colonies giving slide presentations on Mayflower and early colonial topics.
In addition to his wife Muriel, he is survived by their three children: Reynolds Prince Cushing, Jr., and Sharon Lynne Brown, both of Merrimack, New Hampshire, and Mark Stephen Cushing of Plymouth, Massachusetts; eight grandchildren and presently eleven great grandchildren.
A celebrity of life is being planned later in New Hampshire where most of the family members are located.
