

Mary H. Kerr (Simpson), wife of Victor H. Kerr (1926-2007) for 63 years, passed away 2 weeks before her 100th birthday on April 2, 2025. She was born April 16, 1925, in South Wales, Great Britain. She was raised with 4 other siblings in a rural seaside village.
She served as a nurse during World War II and married Victor in 1946. Their first child, Muriel, was born in Scotland. They immigrated to the United States via Ellis Island in 1949, settling in the Chicago land area. In 1999 Mary & Victor moved to Port Charlotte.
Mary was a world class seamstress working at Marshall Fields & Neiman Marcus in Oak Brook, Illinois. She also was President of the Welsh Women’s Club of Illinois.
For hobbies she still enjoyed sewing & volunteered to work on several theatrical productions in Port Charlotte. She also enjoyed traveling, especially going back to Wales, Scotland & England to visit family & friends.
After raising two more children, Andrew & Donald, she returned to her craft. She lived the life that most of us dream of.
She is survived by three children: daughter Muriel Holmsten of Port Charlotte, sons Andrew (Donna) Kerr of Arizona, & Donald Kerr of Port Charlotte, as well as 5 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren.
Gone but still inspiring.
Celebration of life service will be at 11AM April 16th at First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte, 2230 Hariet Street, Port Charlotte, FL.
