

Linda Mae McNamara, 62, of Punta Gorda, passed away at home on July 12th. Born in Camden, NJ, February 2, 1949 to Conrad & Eleanor Simensen, she was a mixed media artist, spinner, weaver, llama rancher, writer, kennel manager, bookseller, gourmet cook, historical interpreter, public schools volunteer coordinator, campaign volunteer, and loving friend, wife and mother. Linda was an accomplished public speaker on the subject of exotic fibers and was once consulted by the Smithsonian Institute for her expertise. She lived on the west coast in Oregon and California for many years, and in New England in Maine and Massachusetts. She was a member of the Charlotte Democratic Women’s Club and the Burnt Store Isles Association. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Robert “Mac” McNamara, son Andy (Tami) McNamara of Eugene, OR, daughter Bess McNamara of Punta Gorda, brother Jac (Annie) Simensen of Punta Gorda, grandchildren Mazie & Tilly McNamara of Eugene, and Oliver Stead of Punta Gorda. A celebration of the Life of Linda Mae McNamara, will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at the Villas of Burnt Store Isles Clubhouse, 3760 Tripoli Blvd., Punta Gorda, FL. 33950, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is intended to be a casual, informal gathering of family and friends to share remembrances of someone who touched so many and departed too soon. A subsequent Celebration in Oregon later in the month is in the planning stages. Additional parking for the August 13th Celebration is available in the open lot on the opposit side of Tripoli Blvd.
