Kenneth Ray Woodruff, 85, of Venice, Florida, went to be with the Lord on August 20, 2024, after losing his battle with Alzheimer’s. Ken was born May 23, 1938 in Portsmouth, VA, and spent most of his life and career devoted to aviation and the Airforce. Planes were his passion, spanning his career from Army Air Corp in New Orleans through the Air National Guard in Ohio. He spent time working both civil service and military contracts in the development of cockpit design and weapons systems, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. Ken also spent his life devoted to his faith in Christ and in service to the local church. Ken and his wife, Lynn, were members of Mt. Zion Church in Beavercreek, Ohio early in their marriage, and more recently of Christ Venice Church in Venice, Florida. Ken served by teaching various Sunday School classes, leading Bible Studies and Men’s groups, coordinating a Nursing Home Visitation ministry, and singing in the choir. Ken will be remembered for his deep conversations, his zany humor, his strong faith, and his love of family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother and friend to many, and will be missed by all who knew him.
Ken is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lynn (nee Geehan) Woodruff; son Kenneth R. Woodruff, granddaughter Brianna Woodruff, and great grandson Sean; daughter Virginia (Lorenzo) Casanova, grandson Daniel (Ashton) Casanova, and granddaughter Melissa Casanova (Erik Bowers); daughter Valerie (Jim) Moxley, granddaughter Kathrine (Ryu) Kasima, great grandsons Jack and Hiroki, grandson Anthony Keathley, and granddaughter Christina (Nate) Harvey; son Kevin (Krista) Woodruff; siblings Jay (Wendy) Woodruff and Mary Kate (Gary) Bowman and their families, and the family of his sister, Patricia (Bill) Kluge (who preceded him in death). Ken is also predeceased by his parents Ray and Mary (nee Colson) Woodruff as well as the mother of his children, Lucile (nee Guyton) Woodruff.
A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Venice Church, 1475 Center Road, Venice, Florida on Saturday, November 2 at 1:00 pm. Flowers may be sent directly to the church. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Christ Venice Church (christvenice.com) or the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org) in memory of Ken Woodruff.
