

Joe was born in Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO on May 1, 1923. He attended grade school through high school in Crystal City, MO. While in school he was a trumpet player in the band, a member of the Honor Society and Debate Team and enjoyed swimming and boxing as extracurricular activities as a youth. One of his proudest accomplishments was when he attained the status of Eagle Scout in the Boys Scouts. He graduated from high school in 1941 and entered the University of Missouri. He married between his junior and senior year. He was called into service and entered the USMC during his second semester as a junior, and joined many other young men in the South Pacific, where he attained the rank of sergeant. Following the war he returned to the University of Missouri and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then attained a job drilling oil on rig platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Later he acquired a contract to work for ARAMCO,the Arabian American Oil Company, and went on to work there 171/2 yrs and then retired to consulting on oil field projects in Bahrain, Sumatra and Egypt. He then returned to the US to settle for good in Punta Gorda Isles FL for many years until his divorce in 1985, when thus several years afterwards he met the love of his life, Laura Salvo in 1995, and they settled together in Pt. Charlotte, FL. They enjoyed friends, the beach, sailing and simply living life to the fullest. Eventually they relocated to the Englewood area in 2016 where Joe peacefully passed at the ripe old age of 98. He shall truly be missed, the salty 'ol man, so when you visit the ocean and see the sailboats, please remember his spirit and the man that he was. God Bless Pops!
Survivors include, his wife, Laura E. Salvo, and his children, Lisa Kreager, Ann Enloe and Joe Salvo Jr.
Mr. Salvo's cremains will be memorialized on Sunday June 5, 2022 in the form of an Eternal Reef Ball to be constructed and then placed at designated coordinates in the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Sarasota.
