Jerry Underwood of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026. Born on October 19, 1944, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Jerry lived a life defined by family, friends, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors, especially fishing.
A proud veteran, Jerry honorably served his country with dedication and pride. The values he learned in the military—diligence, loyalty, and respect—remained with him throughout his life and shaped the way he treated others.
Above all, Jerry was devoted to his children. He dedicated much of his life to supporting and caring for his family, taking great pride in their accomplishments and sharing in their joys. He also cherished time spent outdoors, especially freshwater and deep-sea fishing, where he found both peace and excitement on the water.
In retirement, Jerry found a welcoming community in Port Charlotte, where he was loved for his kindness, humor, and generosity. He had a quick wit, enjoyed a good joke, and never missed an opportunity to strike up a conversation with someone new. A lover of country music, he appreciated life’s simple pleasures and the connections he made along the way.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Julie Underwood; his daughter, Jackie Byrd; and his son, Tommy Underwood; his step-sister, Brenda; and his five cherished grandchildren: Logan, Lincoln, Skyler, Evan, and Delanie.
Jerry will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His warmth, humor, and loving spirit will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
