James A. Greenwood passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2011 at the age of 73 in Port Charlotte, FL with his family by his side. He fought a courageous 7 year battle with cancer. Jim was born October 19, 1937 at Saint Ann’s Hospital in Fall River, MA to his parents Henry & Annie (Plummer) Greenwood. He graduated from Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School in Fall River, MA. in 1955 from the electrical program. He was elected the Vice President of his senior class where his teachers wrote the following accolades in his year book that all came to fruition. “Mr. America in the making… Outstanding in academics… Outstanding in sports… A loyal supporter of school in all activites. A master at his trade… He’s the kind of stuff that America’s made of… A hard worker, productive and expert… He’ll have little trouble in climbing the ladder of success.” After having served his country for four years in the Marine Corp Reserves, he married Louise G. Ouellette of Somerset, MA on April 19, 1958. They had three sons James (Jay) Greenwood of Chesapeake, VA, Jeffrey R. Greenwood of East Falmouth, MA and Chris S Greenwood of Arizona City, AZ. His success led him to a degree in electrical engineering and many advancements at Pratt & Whitney, Honeywell, Fall River Electric, Canal Electric and Com Electric where he held multiple positions including Chief Electrical Engineer, Superintendent of Electrical Maintenance and Computer Hardware/Software Specialist until his retirement at age 55. During his retirement Jim and Louise traveled extensively throughout the US and Canada in their motor coach and was an active member in the FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association), Member ID 5167, since 1970 where he met many lifelong friends. Their travels allowed them to visit dear friends and family throughout the country. Jim was an avid sports fan, golfer and tennis player who also enjoyed building and using his Flight Simulator. Jim also established, organized, lead and joined multiple organizations and clubs including the Elks, American Legion and others.
Jim is survived by his wife Louise, three sons, his sister Janice Simons of Fall River, MA., eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. His family and friends will always have precious memories of good times with Jim, the family gatherings and events, pranks, comedic ability, his lust for life and most importantly, the outward pride he had for his three boys, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held sometime this summer in Fall River, MA.
