Bonnie was born in 1942 to Glenn and Jayne Miller in Darby Pennsylvania. After graduating from Ridley Township High School, she went on to study nursing at the Pennsylvania School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA. Upon completion of her nursing degree, she worked as an emergency room nurse for many years. It was during this time that she met and married her former spouse, Robert Polley Sr. While this relationship wasn’t permanent, they did have three beautiful children together, Heather, Bobby, and Heidi, who Bonnie loved and adored.
Bonnie’s next life adventure took her to Holiday Hills in Pawling, NY. After marrying her late husband, John E. McHenry Jr., and welcoming his family into her life, she, John and her 3 children moved to Pawling. Bonnie was employed as a school nurse at Pawling High School. She is fondly remembered by many former students as being kind, caring, and lenient with signing late slips. In her spare time at Holiday Hills, Bonnie could be found sunning by the lake, smashing it on the tennis courts, or socializing with guests in the dining hall.
Following her husband’s retirement in 1986, Bonnie returned with her family to Pennsylvania. This move allowed her to be closer to her parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews. Here she continued her nursing career as a detox nurse at the Caron Addiction Treatment Center, formerly known as the R. J. Caron Foundation, until she and her late husband permanently retired to their Florida home.
Bonnie has been described by many as fun, young-at-heart, and someone who loved to laugh. She was an active, social being and relished her time playing tennis, pickle ball, and Mexican Train with her friends and family. She also talked fondly about the times she had with the ladies in her Red Hat Society. She enjoyed time at the beach, fishing, looking for shells and shark’s teeth, jumping in the Gulf waves with her grandchildren, feeding the birds, watching the Florida wildlife, riding bike, kayaking, and frequenting the North Jetty and local ice cream shops with her companion, Bob Swanson. She took pleasure in spending time with her children and grandchildren and LOVED when they would come visit her in Florida so she could share all her hobbies and adventures with them. She will be remembered as an amazing, fun, sweet woman who was always there to care and provide support to her family and friends.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Heather (Danny) Polley, of Pennsylvania; son, Robert (Kimberly) Polley Jr., of Virginia; daughter, Heidi (Eric) Piper, of Pennsylvania; stepson, Jack (Kelley) McHenry III, of Washington; stepson, Tom (Betty) McHenry, of Texas; granddaughters, Keiryn and Alexis; grandsons, Jacob (Tia), Devin, Tyler, Noah, Ethan, and Kegan; great-grandchildren, Carter, Dallas, and Leonardo; brothers, Daniel (Cindy) Miller and Glennie (Luci) Miller; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be deeply missed.
Bonnie was proceeded in death by her parents, Glenn and Jayne Miller, her husband, John E. McHenry Jr., former husband, Robert Polley Sr., and step-daughter, Susan.
A celebration of life, to be held in Florida, is being planned for the fall of 2023.
