

He was born May 2, 1938, in DeKalb IL, the son of the late Marsdon and Elizabeth Carey.
Richard was a member of the Elks for 62 years in Dekalb, IL, Mountain Home, AR and Sun City West, AZ. He enjoyed golfing, antique cars and spending time with his loving wife, family and many friends.
Richard found his passion for the electrical trade attending high school in Kirkland Illinois. He then spent the next 49 years in the trade; with the last 28 ½ years at Mascal Electric in DeKalb Illinois as a journeyman, foreman, project manager, Vice President and Partner. He retired from Mascal Electric in 2005.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Patricia A. Carey; one son, Rick (Beth) Carey, South Haven, MI; one daughter, Anne (Dan) Striplin, Kansas City, MO; one bonus daughter Teffanie (Troy) Barclay, Dekalb, IL; 3 grandsons, Adam (Beth) Carey, Oswego, IL; Alex Carey, Seattle WA; Jared Carey (James Maples), Rochelle, IL; great-grandson Christian James “CJ” Carey, Oswego, IL. Also surviving are his 2 brothers: Rodman (Maxine) Carey, Dundee, OR: Vernon Carey, Kingston, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents two brothers and three sisters-in-law proceed him in death. James and Kay Carey, Donald and Pauline Carey and Roxy Carey.
In accordance with Richards wishes a private cremation will take place with no formal service. The family requests that in leu of flowers memorial donations be made to your local Elks Lodge in Richards name.
