Gary “G” Otis MarLett, 69, passed on May 23rd 2021 at Honor Health Deer Valley Medical Center, Phoenix, Arizona after an unexpected illness while surrounded and comforted by his spouse and dear friends. He was born June 7th, 1951 in Warren, Pennsylvania to Otis George MarLett and Margaret Irene Harris-MarLett. Gary is survived by his spouse and partner in life of 28 years, Jaime Torres of Phoenix Arizona, brother Jerry MarLett of Warren, Pennsylvania, nieces Michaelle MarLett-Carroll of Warren, Pennsylvania, Amy MarLett from the Seattle region; brother and sister-in-law, James and Barbara MarLett of Escondido, California, nieces Julie Kristine MarLett, Lisa Claire MarLett-Cramer and Rachel Allison MarLett all from the San Diego area; son Stephen MarLett and his spouse Angelina MarLett from the Leander, Texas and several friends close enough that he considered them family.
As a child, Gary attended Warren Area Schools and graduated with the Warren Area High School class of 1969. After high school, he enlisted in the military and proudly served our country for 25 years. He ended his Navy career as an aircraft mechanic and then transitioned into the auto industry selling Subaru and Cadillac vehicles. Later he changed careers serving the Ability Center, bringing wheelchair accessible vehicles and mobility solutions to his customers throughout Arizona and Southern California. He retired in 2014 and soon after began volunteering at Honor Health Deer Valley, where they also previously had cared for him while he spent several months convalescing. He was both enlightened and inspired by his own time of need and upon that recovery ensured that he gave back to the organization that took such good care of him. Recently Gary was presented with a 3-year pin for his time and contribution to the hospital that gave so much to him.
Gary’s life mission was fulfilled by serving his country and that time of his life inspired his other mission, his love for traveling and exploring the world. He often shared many of his life experiences as a young “Navy man” proudly and endearingly with those he held closest to his heart. Gary was loved by many whom he valued one-on-one connections. He also regularly remained in communication through Facebook with a few of his high school classmates, exchanging and sharing life experiences. He regularly enjoyed playing cards, sharing a good meal out or in and of course a libation or two for good measure while usually sporting a new pair of “on point” shoes or stellar eyeglasses! Gary could also bake like Betty Crocker and those that loved him will certainly miss those many cakes he created for special occasions over the years!
Gary will be deeply missed, especially his sense of good humor and ability to call it the way he saw it! No services have been announced at this time, however several private celebrations of life in both Phoenix and San Diego will take place in his honor in the near future. In lieu of gifts, donations or flowers sharing a story via email with Gary’s long-time partner and spouse Jaime Torres or other family members would be much appreciated at the following address: [email protected]
