David was born and raised in Madison, South Dakota to Frank and Delores Reurink. He grew up in Colton, SD, and lived most of his life in SD and MN. He retired to Mesa, Arizona. After graduating from high school, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970.
Following his military service, David built a life defined by hard work and dedication. He spent many years as an over-the-road truck driver and also worked as a handyman and in facility maintenance for churches, hotels, and apartment communities. No matter the job, he was known for his reliability and his ability to fix just about anything.
David had a deep love for working with his hands. He enjoyed woodworking and creating stained glass pieces, hobbies that reflected both his craftsmanship and patience. Above all, he cherished time with his family. His wife, Barbara, and daughter, Jennifer, were his world, and he shared a special bond with his son-in-law, Lee. His greatest joy, however, was being a grandfather to Abby and Matthew. He took immense pride in them and loved attending their activities, cheering them on, and passing along his knowledge.
Those who knew David will remember his sense of humor and his gift for storytelling—he was sharing stories right up until the end. Though often stoic, he loved his family deeply and without hesitation, a quiet strength that defined his life.
David is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his daughter, Jennifer, and son-in-law, Lee; and his beloved grandchildren, Abby and Matthew. Sisters Bev (Mike) Berg and Lori Otten and brother, Todd (Ann) Reurink and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Delores Reurink.
A memorial service will be held on May 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sioux Falls Veterans Cemetery in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in David’s memory to the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
