Thomas Wayne Harwood, 75, of Orange City, FL, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024 at home.
He was born September 11, 1948 in Bloomington, IL, the fourth oldest son of Winston L. and Helen (Teal) Harwood. He is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Chad) Strobach, his son, Mark (Linda) Harwood and grandchildren Zoe, Hans, Corey, Steven and Kirsty, all of Illinois. He will also be missed by his partner of 21 years, Carmen Caceres.
Tom is also survived by three brothers and four sisters: Herbert J. (Twyla), Grand Rivers, KY; Steve R. (Karen) Talbott, TN; Jack W., Louisville, KY; Judith (George) Myers, Bloomington, IL; Gale (Alan) Johnston, Burleson, TX; Nancy Abel-King, Dunedin, FL; Susan (Rob) Hazzard, Palm Harbor, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Pamela Harwood, and a brother, Franklin T. Harwood.
Tom was a 1966 graduate from Wheeling High School in Wheeling, IL. He was a United States Army veteran and served in Vietnam 1968 -1969. After serving our country he worked at Illinois Bell for 30 years and for many years lived in Round Lake Heights, Illinois. In 2011, Tom rode his bicycle on a solo 7-month, 6,837-mile cross country journey exploring the USA, while raising money for a children’s charity.
A memorial service and inurnment at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Hunger Fund.
