Born on April 10, 1956, in York, Pennsylvania, Steve moved with his family to Orlando, Florida, at the age of three. Orlando would become his lifelong home, where he grew up, attended school, got married, and raised his family.
Steve graduated from Boone High School in 1974, where he proudly played baseball for the Boone High School Braves. His love of the game would remain with him throughout his life and eventually lead him to spend countless hours coaching and mentoring young athletes in his community.
Throughout his career, Steve worked as a Store Manager for Cap World in Orlando, Winter Garden, and Sanford. Prior to that, he spent many years as a Real Estate Broker with At Home Realty and Mannix Realty and also served as a Trust Officer with Barnett Bank/Nations Bank.
Steve is survived by his devoted wife, Leilani Hall; his daughter, Heather Matthiesen and her husband, Andre Matthiesen; his son, Jason Hall and his wife, Amanda Hall; his beloved grandchildren, Rachel Matthiesen and Blake Matthiesen; his sisters, Carol Arvo and Barbara James; and his cherished nephew, Rick Schoppe. He is also survived by many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Henry Hall, Jr.; his mother, Marlene Hall; and his brother, Michael Hall.
To many, Steve was known simply as “Coach.” He dedicated countless hours to Union Park Little League, where he found his greatest joy coaching his son through his baseball years. Steve believed that attitude was just as important as talent, a belief that inspired the creation of the famous “Attitude Pin,” awarded after each game to the player who best demonstrated sportsmanship and determination. Generations of players still remember hearing Steve call out from the dugout, “If it’s going to be…” and the team proudly answering, “…it’s up to me!”
Beyond the baseball field, Steve was a pioneer in Orlando’s mini-truck community, founding the Unlimited Concepts Mini Truck Club. Known for having one of the cleanest trucks at any show, Steve loved spending weekends surrounded by friends, with mini trucks filling the driveway and laughter filling the house.
Later in life, Steve developed a passion for Corvettes and enjoyed many memorable trips with his wife and son, visiting Corvette museums, shows, and events throughout the country. No matter where life took him, however, the coach inside never disappeared. Years later, he could still be found enthusiastically supporting his granddaughter at softball games—often needing a reminder which side of the fence he was supposed to be standing on.
Steve had a special love for animals, especially his beloved German Shepherd, Jake, who held a permanent place in his heart.
Above all else, Steve was a family man. Family was the foundation of everything he believed in and worked for. He was known for his legendary dad jokes, his strong work ethic, his guidance, and his stern yet gentle-hearted nature. His greatest source of pride was his wife, children, and grandchildren, whom he loved beyond measure.
Steve will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, coach, mentor, and friend. He took great pride in being the family man and friend he was to all who knew and loved him. His lessons, laughter, encouragement, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Though deeply missed, his family finds comfort knowing that his legacy of love, determination, kindness, and positive attitude will continue through the many lives he touched.
“If it’s going to be, it’s up to me.”
The family would like to thank the staff at LOTUS Rehabilitation & Nursing Center and Hospice with VITAS Healthcare for the care, compassion, and kindness they showed Steve in his final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at National Cremation & Burial Society, 7565 Red Bug Lake Road, Oviedo, Florida 32765.
