Robert Fielding Denton II was born on April 12, 1945, in Woodbury, New Jersey. He grew up in Cheshire, Connecticut with his parents William and Martha, three brothers Richard, William and John, and sister Kathryn. Robert graduated from Cheshire High School in 1963. While attending high school, Robert met his soulmate and love of his life Martha Lee Curtis. After several breakups, Robert realized they were destined to be together sent her a letter that connected them again while in college. Robert and Martha were married on December 10, 1966. They moved to Terryville, Connecticut in 1974 with their two daughters Lynda Kathryn and Tracy Elizabeth.
Throughout his adult life, Robert (Bob) has multiple career paths. Some highlights include working at MacDermid of Bristol, Dynatherm Corporation, and Macon, Inc. He was part-owner of JT Precision Molding and Assembly from 1984 to 1992. He also enjoyed working at a deli, being a personal computer consultant, fixing jewelry and his final place of employment Woodworker’s Warehouse. Nearer and dearer to his heart was his involvement in public service. He served on the Board of Water Pollution Control Authority of Plymouth, Connecticut for nine years and was a member and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Immanuel Lutheran Church and School in Bristol, Connecticut.
Bob’s most important role was that of protector and caregiver. He was home with Lynda and Tracy while Martha pursued her career in Nursing. Bob eventually “retired” to take care of his grandson Zachary in 1996. Bob also transitioned to caring for Martha’s parents Winthrop and Astrid Curtis in 2004 following Hurricane Charlie. This facilitated a move to Port Charlotte, Florida. After the passing of both of Martha’s parents, Bob and Martha moved to Zellwood, Florida in 2012.
Over the years, Bob enjoyed working with his hands completing and framing jigsaw puzzles, building 3D wood puzzle trains, crocheting with a loom, and fixing minor household needs. Bob enjoyed gardening, grilling, computer puzzles, brain games, scrolling on social media and watching Jeopardy.
Unfortunately, Bob was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2025. His 18-month battle came to an end on September 22, 2026 at the Orlando Cornerstone Hospice House in Florida. His wife Martha never left his side. He faced his battle with grace, bravery, humor, and quiet strength supported by the love of his family. He is survived by his wife Martha Curtis Denton married almost 60 years, daughter Lynda Kathryn Belanger, daughter Tracy Elizabeth Kennedy and son-in-law Nicholas Wade Kennedy, grandson Zachary Robert Stafford, granddaughter Alexandra Rose Belanger, sister Kathryn Elizabeth Behm, brother-in-law John Henry Curtis and sister-in-law Marcia Hanek Curtis and many other nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him dearly.
