Our “Good Ole Dad” went to his Heavenly home on the morning of April 29, 2026, at 87 years old. He was born in Mount Holly Springs, PA, in September 1938. He led a rich and full life filled with friends and family and always approached life with a smile!
In his younger days he attended Mechanicsburg High School, PA, and later went to Gordon Military College and the University of Georgia. He spent his career working as a comptroller in Pennsylvania. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, caving, and hunting. He retired to his favorite home of all time on the water in Merritt Island, FL, where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and watching the birds – especially his purple martins. He called it paradise!
He was a Lutheran all his life. Eight years ago in July 2018 after a stroke he was visited by his Guardian Angel. He was told his life had been extended because his work on Earth was not yet done. Now his work is finished and he has been reunited with his loved ones who preceded him in Heaven. After his angel visit he became an author and wrote a 5-volume autobiography and a funny book of sayings called “The Second Mouse Gets the Cheese.” He also wrote a bumper sticker that says “Our Family Bible Holds Our Survival.” These past few years his caregivers Annie, Jamie, and Ashley have been an immense and priceless help to him. We also thank Hospice of Health First for their excellent care.
He is survived by his daughter Pam Winegar and her husband Richard, and son Bob Smith, along with Bob’s son Ben Smith and his wife Ashley (children Stella and Rhys), and Bob’s daughter Kellie Kuhn and her husband Ron (children Daniel, Mollie, and Emilie). He was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Betty Smith of Hershey, PA, and wife Elizabeth.
He asked for no service but instead would like you to spend time with someone special and hug your loved ones a little tighter today. He said more important than the years in your life, is the life in your years!
