Michael “Mike” Zingarelli, 74, passed away on March 8, 2026, in Melbourne, Florida.
Born in Ventnor, New Jersey in 1951 to Michael and Corrine Zingarelli, he grew up with a deep love of family, community, and Philadelphia sports.
After graduating from St. Francis University (PA), Mike proudly served in the United States Navy. It was during his assignment at Naval Facility Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, that he met and married his wife of 50 years, Becky.
In 1986, Mike and Becky settled in Brevard County, Florida, where Mike followed his passion for working with young people. As a coach and substitute teacher throughout the county, he taught and coached thousands of students and athletes over the decades. He coached football at Melbourne Central Catholic High School and later at Viera High School, where “Coach Z” became known for his quick wit, integrity, unwavering support and making every student and athlete feel seen. He truly loved getting to know them all. His influence lives on in the countless young people he encouraged, challenged, and believed in.
A lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, Mike continued to cheer on his beloved Phillies and Eagles. Fly, Coach, Fly.
Mike is survived by his sister, Denise Zingarelli Peacock; his wife, Rebecca (née Weaver); their son, Anthony (Kelly); and grandchildren Annabella and Luca, who brought him immense joy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday June 7, 2026, at Viera Regional Park Lake Pavilion, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
