It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Max Bourgeois. Max was born on May 7, 1937, to Orile Bourgeois and Bessie Gautreau Bourgeois. He went to be in the loving arms of Jesus on May 31, 2026.
Max was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Max never met a stranger; if he didn’t know you, after talking with you, you were his friend! He helped many people in his lifetime. He was truly a very generous, giving man.
His favorite scripture was Psalm 91:1, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
Max joined the U.S. Marines in 1955. He was recommended for a transfer to Washington, D.C., to be part of the Drill Team and served as a Presidential Guard. Dwight D. Eisenhower was the U.S. President at the time. He received a photo of President Eisenhower along with his signature. There were many memorable events. That position was normally a year-long assignment; however, he was promoted three times and remained in the position. He was blessed to retire from Shell Chemical in Geismar in 1996. Max was an avid golfer for many years.
He is survived by the love of his life of 63 years, Linda Lee Bourgeois. He loved spending time golfing and spending family vacations at the beach. He has three children: two sons, Rhett Anthony Bourgeois (Lesli Stewart) and Jamie Lee Bourgeois (Tracie Eppinett); and one daughter, Erika Bourgeois Turja (Jeff). He also loved spending time with his grandchildren, Jared Michael Bourgeois (Kandi), Rachel Bourgeois Koby, Joshua Mark Bourgeois (Robyn), Rantz Lee Bourgeois (Breanne), Briggs Daniel Bourgeois (Carley), and Austin Lee Turja.
He has four adorable great-grandchildren: Tucker Henry Koby, Xavier Michael Bourgeois, Liberty Grace Bourgeois, and Cruz Lee Bourgeois.
He is also survived by three sisters, Evelyn “Pip” Blanchard (Robert), Annette Braud, and Sylvia “Tut” Lambert; and one brother, Perry Bourgeois (Debbie).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orile and Bessie Bourgeois; three sisters, Rita B. Forsyth, Catherine “Cat” B. Gautreau, and Celena “Menet” B. Gautreau; one brother, Stanley “Pluke” Bourgeois; and four brothers-in-law, Eddie “Bo” Gautreau, Buren Gautreau, Lucius “Jr.” Forsyth, and Donald Braud and one sister-in-law, Myrtle Bourgeois.
Celebration of Life will be held June 15, 2026 at The Table Church, 18380 Alligator Bayou Rd., Prairieville, LA, 70769 with visitation starting at 11:00 am-12:00 pm. The service will be officiated by Pastor Judy Laird and Pastor Joey Laird. Music by David and Pam Gautreau.
