MaryAnn Seltzer, of Plainview, NY, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022, at the age of 85. MaryAnn was born in Flushing, NY to Henry and Mary (Smith) Kaltschmidt, the youngest of four children.
MaryAnn was employed at United Airlines as a secretary. It was there that she met George Seltzer, who also worked for United. They were married
October 19, 1957 and celebrated their 65th anniversary this past October.
MaryAnn and George raised three children, Kenneth, Robert, and Lynn. She enjoyed making homemade meals, reading, bowling, painting ceramics, and traveling out west with her family. She was a devoted baseball fan, rooting for the Mets for 60 years and she rarely missed watching a game on television.
MaryAnn was active in the Plainview Reformed Church for 62 years and the members served as her second family. She volunteered in the church thrift shop for over 30 years.
MaryAnn was a loyal sibling, especially to her older sister Helen (Kaltschmidt) Herbig, whom she was predeceased by. The pair were best friends and could often be found laughing and calling each other Laverne and Shirley, a reference to the popular sitcom. The sisters spread joy to others and their laughter was infectious.
MaryAnn was a devoted grandmother to her five grandchildren. She remained active throughout her life, teaching them how to ride a bicycle and play volleyball and baseball. She had a great pitching arm!
She is survived by her three children - Ken (Kelli), Robert (Janice) Lynn (Jim) and five grandchildren - Lilith, Nicole, Jennifer, Kiersten and Ryan. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
A celebration of life for MaryAnn Seltzer and her husband George will take place at the Plainview Reformed Church, 560 Old Bethpage Rd, Plainview, NY 11803, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 7, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Plainview Reformed Church in George and MaryAnn’s name.
