Marsha Phelps Timko

Born on March 10, 1944, in New Brunswick, Marsha was the cherished daughter of the late John and Mary Phelps. She is predeceased by her sister Mary and her devoted husband, James Charles Timko, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage for 57 years.

Marsha's life was marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to her family. She graduated from Douglass College in 1966. Her early career as a home economics teacher reflected her nurturing spirit. She then transitioned into her most cherished role as a full-time mother following the birth of her first child, Jennifer, in 1968. As her children grew, Marsha contributed her talents to Personal Products in Milltown, where she worked diligently until her retirement.

Family was the center of Marsha's life. She was the proud mother of Donna Tan and her husband John Welsh, Jennifer Hanley and her husband Brian, and James Timko and his wife Jamie. Her legacy continues to shine brightly through her grandchildren—Monique, Megan, Elizabeth, Amanda and her husband Casey, Kendall, Madelyn —and her great-granddaughter, Ruby.

Marsha's hands were rarely still. She found joy in cooking, crocheting, and sewing, and even created her daughters’ prom dresses. Her artistic spirit extended to painting. Evenings were often spent playing backgammon in front of the TV with James, a reflection of the simple joys they shared. Known for her quick wit and love of laughter, Marsha shared her wisdom and humor. Her strength and guidance were the bedrock for her family. Her open heart and listening ear were a source of comfort and counsel to many. She was spirited and respected and the kids in the neighborhood were often corrected by the mere raising of her right eyebrow.

In addition to her immediate family, Marsha leaves behind a community of friends and extended family who will miss her deeply. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Merrill Gardens for the compassionate care and support provided to Marsha in her later years.
