Abuelo was always THE man of class and taste

Tio Mario,
Descansa en Paz! When my late father and you were together, I was often reminded that you were the one that brought us home from Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx shortly after my birth. This was May 1978. I enjoyed your sense of humor and admired your strong character. Thank you for the many memories throughout the years, usually during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. Siempre habia fiesta! You will be missed but never forgotten!

I’m honestly lost for words. I wasn’t prepared to say goodbye to you. My heart hurts knowing I won’t get to hear your voice saying “yeah sure” anymore

I will miss you so much. You gave me memories that I will carry with me forever, and I promise I’ll keep your memory alive through the boys. I’ll teach them how to play Rummy 500 and dominoes, just like you taught me, so every time we sit down to play, laugh, and talk, we’ll think of you.

Mi Abuelo Lindo, thank you for the love, the lessons, the laughs, and all the memories. I love you so much, and I wish I had more time.

Papi or Mario or Mr. Martinez. Always Papi but the other two were to be funny and mess with him. His response would always be “yes Mrs. Eck.” I hope you left knowing that I love you so much. Neither one of us said it much, in that sense we are very similar but I knew you loved me and I pray that you knew I love you. The last year was rough with various doctor appointments and disagreements about your care. You always made your own decisions and I had to respect them. I miss you dearly and it’s so weird not having you here but I know you’re not in pain anymore. I know you were ready I just had to make myself ready. I tried, I thought I was but it’s hard! Descansa  en paz, mi  papi lindo. Te amo siempre. 

Papi, Mario o el Sr. Martínez. Siempre «Papi», aunque los otros nombres eran para bromear y molestarte un poco. Tu respuesta siempre era: «Sí, Sra. Eck». Espero que te hayas ido sabiendo cuánto te quiero. Ninguno de los dos lo decía mucho —en ese sentido somos muy parecidos—, pero yo sabía que me querías y rezo para que tú supieras que yo te quiero a ti. El último año fue duro, con muchas citas médicas y desacuerdos sobre tus cuidados. Siempre tomabas tus propias decisiones y yo tenía que respetarlas. Te extraño muchísimo y se siente muy raro no tenerte aquí, pero sé que ya no sufres. Sé que tú estabas listo; yo solo tenía que prepararme. Lo intenté, creí estar lista, ¡pero es difícil! Descansa en paz, mi papi lindo. Te amaré siempre.
