Jack Delbert Edmonds

Edmonds, Jack Delbert, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 23, 2017. Jack was born in Elk City, Oklahoma, and moved to LaJolla, California as a teen. He moved to Linwood, New Jersey in 1961, and retired to Winter Park, Florida in 2000. Jack is survived by his wife Lucia (“Lucy”) M. Edmonds, his daughter Joan Edmonds, and his daughter Ann Edmonds, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by friends he retained throughout the years he was stationed with in Austria, Vienna during WWII, as well as caring neighbors and friends during his final years in Winter Park, Florida. Jack is preceded by his father John Edmonds, his mother Ruby Edmonds (Spear), his brother Ray Edmonds, and his son John Edmonds. Jack played football for LaJolla High School, and graduated in 1942. Post-graduation, Jack joined the Air Force (Army Air Corp), and served for three years as an air traffic controller during World War II. Upon the end of the war, he worked as an air traffic controller in San Diego, California, and moved to Linwood New Jersey where he continued in his profession at NAFEC (FAA Technical Center) until 1984. After retirement from the Federal Government, Jack worked for several local contractors as a project manager, continuing his work at NAFEC with his colleagues. Throughout his career, he continued his education, obtained multiple educational certificates and training completions, as well as awards, from his employers. After final retirement at age 75, he moved to Winter Park, Florida to live out his remaining years. Jack enjoyed the beach, fine dining, traveling, Philadelphia sports teams, movies, crossword puzzles, and all things aviation related, as well as CC Manhattans. Always the jokester, he loved to laugh as well as make others laugh. Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, with honors, On April 21, 2017 at 2:00pm. All are welcome to join us for a short military service to honor Jack’s service during active war time. No donations or flowers will be accepted.
