Donald "Don" Albert Demers

Donald "Don" Albert Demers of Poinciana, Florida died on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at the age of 80. Don was born in New London, Connecticut to David Joseph Demers and Helen Louise Bogue Demers on December 16, 1945. He graduated from New London High School in 1963 and obtained college degrees from Central Connecticut State College. Throughout his educational years Don was actively involved in team sports, especially football and baseball. Don’s love of sports continued as he became an avid Yankee and University of Connecticut basketball fan.

Don taught middle and high school math in New Britain, CT and Southington, CT for a total of 34 years. In addition to advocating for his students, he was a very active member of his teacher unions. He served as president for multiple terms for his local union, Southington Education Association (SEA), was on the Board of Directors for the Connecticut Education Association (CEA), and was treasurer of the Connecticut Education Association – Retired for two terms. Don was a delegate to several state and national (NEA) conventions.

Don enjoyed playing golf for many years along with playing bridge and euchre card games. He liked to travel, especially cruising the Caribbean and visiting casinos. He greatly loved playing water volleyball with his friends in Solivita.

He was predeceased in death by his parents; his brothers, Ronald Demers and Jeffrey Demers; and his grandson, Brandon Keyser.

Don is survived by his wife, Marcia Bristol Demers; his daughters, Christine (Michael) Roy of St. Cloud, Florida and Llyra (Sean Lamont) de la Mere of Shoreline, Washington; and grandsons, Christopher Lamont and Zack Roy.

Don will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life for Don will be held in September. Please contact family for details.
