Charles Samuel Burnworth

Charles Samuel Burnworth, affectionately known as “Sam” by everyone who knew him, passed away peacefully on July 28th, 2026, in Lakeland, Florida after a decades-long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was 81 years old.

Sam was born on February 26, 1945, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to parents Edgar Burnworth and Orpha Boyer, both of whom predecease him. He is survived by his children, Deanna Walker (Brian), and Christopher Burnworth (Heather); his granddaughters, Alyssa Travis (Matthew), Jami Romero, and Riley Walker; and his great-grandson, Maverick Janca.

Sam graduated from Uniontown High School in 1964 and proudly went on to serve his country in the United States Army in the Vietnam war. He carried that sense of honor and commitment throughout his life. He built a successful career as a carpenter, where he helped construct countless homes throughout different areas of Maryland, Virginia and Florida.

Outside of work, Sam found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved tending to his garden, preparing delicious meals, baking, being outdoors and spending time surrounded by family and friends. In his later years, nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his beloved great-grandson, Maverick, who held a very special place in his heart. He also found comfort and companionship in the family's dog, Bean, and his trusted feline friend, Winston.

Those who knew Sam will remember his steadfast devotion to his country, his unwavering love for his family, and his remarkable sense of humor, which remained with him until the very end. Even as Parkinson's disease presented increasing challenges, Sam met each day with resilience, dignity, and a wit that continued to bring smiles to those around him. Sam was soft-spoken, kind, humble and never angered.

A memorial service, with military honors, will be held at Florida National Cemetery, in Bushnell, Florida at a later date. Updates will be made available at www.nationalcremation.com.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Parkinson’s Foundation, or The Michael J. Fox Foundation, honoring Sam’s long and courageous journey with Parkinson’s disease.

Though he will be deeply missed, Sam's legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the homes he built, the lives he touched, and the love and laughter he leaves behind.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever. Revelation 21:4.
