Ann Gross

Ann Gross, affectionately known as GG, Gramma, Motherdear, and Darling Auntie Annie, passed away peacefully at Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Panorama City, California on July 18, 2025. She was 94 years old.

Ann was born on May 14, 1931, in Los Angeles, California. She lived her entire life in Southern California. Ann grew up in Boyle Heights with her mother and three sisters. She attended elementary school, middle school and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Her journey through life was marked by resilience, dedication, and a deep love for her family.

Ann worked tirelessly throughout her life. She worked for many years as an executive secretary at LouverDrape in Santa Monica, where her professionalism and commitment left a lasting impression. Later in life, she embarked on a second career with Kaiser Permanente Hospital in communications. There, she became fondly known as "Operator Ann" among doctors, nurses, and staff—a testament to the warmth and reliability she brought to every interaction. Remarkably, she continued working until the age of 85 before retiring.

Family was at the heart of everything Ann did. She is survived by her daughter Francine Nelson (Russell); her son Matthew Gross (Kelli); grandsons Andrew Nelson (Erica), Evan Nelson, Garrett Gross (Jessie), Nicholas Gross and great-grandchildren Sky Nelson and Zaydee Nelson. Her legacy also lives on through many beloved nieces, nephews, close friends and neighbors.

Ann cherished time with her family above all else. Her home was always open—filled with laughter, stories, and unconditional support. Known for her bold honesty and sharp wit, she had an unshakable spirit that overflowed with love and humor. Those who knew her were touched by her strength and unwavering loyalty.

Ann lived independently until the end of her life which reflects her fierce determination that defined her character. Her presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those fortunate enough to have known her.
