

William E Hanners, 77 years of age, from North Fort Myers, Florida; passed away 1/29/18. Formally from Western New York, Getzville before retiring to Florida with his high school sweetheart, Oda L. (Lowrey) Hanners. They were together for over 60 years of their lives. He was born in Beverly, Massachusetts, to Dwight Hanners and Eleanor (Johannes) Hanners. He served 4 years in the United States Navy as a 2nd class radar man. Worked for Bethlehem Steel Corp for over 30 years as an Electrician. He loved the outdoors, nature and National Parks. His favorite was Yellowstone National Park. He also enjoyed his time at Keuka Lake, NY at the YMCA camp as a child. He enjoyed fast cars, and drag racing. He owed many classic cars during his life but he always liked making them go faster. He tinkered and built many engines during his lifetime. Building projects were done for those he loved. He always loved animals; cats especially stole his heart. William is survived by His spouse, children, William Hanners and Elizabeth O’Neill. Six grandchildren; Jessica Hanners, Sean O’Neill, Shane O’Neill, Caitlin O’Neill, Abigail Hanners, and Jacob Hanners. He also is survived by his Brother Douglas and his wife Jan of Austin, Texas and their son Nathan Hanners; and sister, Sally Phillips of Plainview, Texas.
A private ceremony will be held during the summer in New York. Any donations could be made to the Disabled Veterans Association, Humane Society or Hope Hospice in his honor.
