Roy served in the U.S. Navy from Nov. 12, 1964 to Oct. 21, 1966, including deployment to Vietnam on the USS Independence (CVA-62). Roy was a proud Veteran, dedicated to serving his country as an Aircraft Mechanic. Roy was awarded numerous medals; National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal/Southeast Asia. Following his service, he worked as an Engineer for well over 40 years. Roy also served as a volunteer firefighter with his wife at the Hampton Falls, NH fire dept.
Roy was known for his incredible ability to build unique gadgets out of almost nothing and could fix anything, a true original MacGyver. A beautiful sailboat and dome house are just a couple of his impressive projects. Roy had a passion for classic cars, wildlife, cooking, gardening and had a yard full of beautiful fruit trees. He enjoyed bowling, sailing, dining, a fine glass of wine or bourbon, walks with his dog Wilbur and most of all his beloved wife. Carol was the absolute love of his life. Carol and Roy were a beautiful mix of feisty fun, patience, loyalty and most importantly, true unconditional love. They complimented each other perfectly and were inseparable for over 40 years.
Roy never asked for anything from anybody. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back but would never let you know he was cold. His patience was legendary like that of a saint. Whether he was fixing something that seemed broken beyond repair or just sitting quietly with a stray dog that felt safe enough to approach him as they sensed his kindness immediately, Roy had a way of slowing down the world. He understood that the best things in life don't need to be rushed, and the most important things don't need to be shouted. In a world that can be loud and demanding, he was a sanctuary of quiet. He lived by a simple code: do your job, take care of your own, and never be a burden to anyone. Roy loved his family very much and will be missed dearly.
Roy is survived by his beloved wife Carol Ann Davey, step-children Stephanie Filip, Anthony Filip and his wife Beth, step-grandchildren Devin Wilson, Gavin, Gage and Gwen Filip. His dearest brothers Ernie Davey and his wife Julianne, George Davey and his daughter Carolyn.
