While most people knew him as Bob, to his mother and siblings he would always be "Butch," a nickname that remained a cherished part of his family identity and one that always brought back memories of home.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968. After his military service, he built a long career with Ford Motor Company, where his strong work ethic and dedication were evident throughout the years. Following his retirement, he truly enjoyed the life he had worked so hard to build, spending his days with his beloved wife, Linda.
Bob found joy in the simple things. He loved golfing, riding his bicycle, playing tennis, watching a good movie, and reminiscing about life's adventures. He was an avid sports fan, especially college football and basketball, and there was no team he loved more than the University of Michigan. On fall Saturdays, you could almost always find him cheering on his beloved Michigan Wolverines with an enthusiastic "Go Blue!"
He was a gifted storyteller, and those who knew him will forever remember the sayings that became part of who he was. If you asked how he was doing, chances are you'd hear, "I've never had it so good," or, "If I was any better, there'd be two of me." Those words always brought a smile and perfectly reflected his warm spirit, optimism, and sense of humor.
More than anything, Bob loved his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Dowd; his children, Rick Dowd, David Dowd, Tricia Margrave, Cheryl Holiday, and Kimberly Dowd; his stepchildren, Jeff Mason and Connie Lipa; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Wilma Huegel and Joyce Puckett.
Bob shared a special bond with his stepson, Jeff, who was not only family but also his favorite golfing partner. The two spent countless hours on the golf course together, affectionately calling each other "Partner," a memory that will forever bring smiles to those who knew them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Dowd and Veda Carroll, and his brother, Earl Eugene "Bud" Dowd.
Bob will be remembered for his kindness, his unwavering work ethic, his love of family, his stories, his sayings, and his ability to make those around him smile. His stories will continue to be told, his sayings will continue to be repeated, and his memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family finds comfort in knowing that Bob is now at peace, free from pain, and reunited with loved ones who went before him. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to family will endure for generations to come.
