Kathryn E McKiernan

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Kathryn lived a life marked by compassion, strength, and service. She graduated from St. Xavier High School and Saint Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, dedicating over 40 years of her life to the nursing profession. Her calling led her to care for countless mothers and newborns at St. Joseph’s Hospital, South County Hospital, and Cape Coral Hospital, where she spent most of her career in obstetrics—bringing thousands of babies into the world with grace and dedication.

Kathryn is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Donald McKiernan; her children: Sean (Irene) McKiernan, Denise McKiernan, (Michelle McKiernan), Barbara McKiernan, and Donald (Cara) McKiernan; and her cherished grandchildren: Rebecca McKiernan, Bronson Hervey, Jonathan Holguin, Kelly McKiernan, Caitlin McKiernan, and Donald McKiernan. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Annmarie (Powers) Maciel, brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Gary and Carol McKiernan and her life long best friend Barbara (Pugliese) Lysik who introduced her to Donald in 1962.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie Powers; her brother, J. Daniel Powers; and her son, Kevin McKiernan.

Kathryn was a “take action” woman who never shied away from a challenge. Whether she was raising five children, working long hours, painting the house, or tending to her garden, she gave everything her all. She was always ready with a helping hand, a listening ear, and honest advice. Her unwavering dedication to her family and her example of honesty, integrity, and hard work shaped the lives of everyone who knew her.

She enjoyed playing games, reading, watching Perry Mason and Dateline, volunteering at church and Hope Hospice and, most of all, spending time with her family.

Kathryn’s legacy of love, strength, and service will live on in the hearts of her family and all those whose lives she touched.
