Preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Loomis, and his wife of nearly 40 years, Suzanne (nee Marquardt).
John was born in Milwaukee, WI on September 19,1944. He attended St. Ann’s Grade School, Pius XI Catholic High School, and University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, where he received his bachelor’s degree in history.
Proud father of Brian (Tara) Loomis and Kari (Tony) Skoufis. Beloved Grandpa of Nicholas, Connor, Irelyn, and Sean Loomis; and Sotirios and Theodoros Skoufis.
Also survived by sister-in-law, Nancy O’Keefe, brother-in-law, Dean Marquardt, sister Mary Meyer, nephew Charles Meyer, and longtime companion and friend Barbara Ashley of Fort Myers, Fl. Further survived by other relatives and friends.
John worked for 40 years in industrial sales, 30 years part-time for the Milwaukee Journal, and spent 21 years in the Army Reserve, retiring as a Major.
Amid his busy work schedule, he always found time to take the family to Disney. Yes, John was a Disney guy! He and Suzie also enjoyed many trips together, including travels to Ireland and Russia.
Christmas was always John’s favorite holiday. It wasn’t just the trees, decorations, cookies, or caroling he loved — his greatest joy was playing Santa for children and seeing their faces light up as they shared their Christmas wishes with him. He did this for many years in the Third Ward in downtown Milwaukee and at Pelican Preserve in Fort Myers, where he continued the tradition. It truly was his favorite time of year.
John will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A Mass of Intention will be held at St. Paul's Parish
S38 W31602 Wern Way, Waukesha, WI on June 7 at 9:00 a.m. A celebration of life will be held in Fort Myers, FL at a future date.
