Joan P. Thompson

Joan was born on February 14, 1938, in New Britain, Connecticut, to Charles Adams and Florence Dow Pethybridge. She graduated from Lasell University in 1957 and began her career as a private secretary before dedicating herself to raising her family as a stay-at-home mother. She later returned to the workforce as an administrative assistant at the University of Connecticut Medical Center, where she remained until her retirement.

Joan spent most of her life in Plainville, Connecticut, before relocating to Fort Myers, Florida, in 2005, where she enjoyed her retirement years. She was an avid golfer and musician. She inherited her love of the piano from her father who was a jazz pianist. She also found joy in gardening, singing in the chorus, playing bridge, and spending time socializing with family and friends.

Above all, Joan cherished her family. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Pardue (Todd), and her granddaughter, Alexandra Pardue. She was predeceased by her beloved son, S. Adam Thompson; her twin sister, Jane Ralston; and her parents, Charles and Florence Pethybridge and several nieces and nephews.

Joan supported many local charities but was especially eager to support young golfers. To that end, please direct any donation to FSGA Foundation where the funds will go to junior golfers from Southwest Florida, either for financial support as they pursue their golf career, or in support of a college scholarship.
