James Steiner, age 77, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, who lived a life filled with kindness, love, and service.
Jim was born on Feb 6, 1947 in Manhasset, NY. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Steiner, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in love and family, raising two children, Jason and Justine on Long Island.
Jim was proud of his service to America as a member of the US Air Force from 1966-1970, with a majority of that time spent at Wiesbaden Air Force base in West Germany.
Jim was a man of integrity and warmth, known for his radiant smile that could light up any room. His easy demeanor and warm laugh attracted countless friends on Long Island, New York and in Fort Myers, Florida where the couple relocated in 1996.
Throughout their lives together Jim and Marilyn loved to travel: by car - having crisscrossed the country both before and after the advent of GPS; by airplane - be it to Europe, Alaska, or Caribbean and of course by cruise ship - where Jim loved to spend time cruising the seas with Marilyn, including a transpacific cruise, through the Panama Canal, countless Caribbean cruises and even braving a Disney cruise at his granddaughters behest. Through all this travel, Jim was able to share his smile and laughter with the world.
Jim’s legacy of love, humility, and devotion will live on in the hearts of his wife, Marilyn; his children, Jason and Justine; his daughter-in-law Andrea Steiner and his son-in-law Darrell Reed; as well as his grandchildren, Aidan, Conor, Abigail, and Charlotte James; and countless friends and family members who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family would like to thank the many healthcare professionals and caregivers who supported Jim during his illness with skill and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in James’ memory to organizations dedicated to PSP research, such as CurePSP (www.psp.org), ensuring that others might benefit from advancements in understanding and treating this disease.
Jim will be deeply missed but forever remembered. May his beautiful smile and the goodness of his life serve as a source of comfort and strength for all who loved him.
