

Gerald F. "Jerry" Gowan, age 95, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, in Ft. Myers, Florida. Born on March 5, 1931, in Hornell, New York, Jerry lived a remarkable life filled with love, service, and dedication to his family, career, and community.
Jerry’s journey was one of perseverance and achievement. He pursued his education at night school at IUPUI while earning his business degree and becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish multiple successful businesses in mortgage lending, real estate, and the restaurant industry. Jerry’s leadership extended beyond his own ventures; he served as the President of the Mortgage Bankers Association and contributed his time and expertise to various organizations such as Wendy's charities and the Sertoma Club.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Jerry served during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. His commitment to service was a hallmark of his character throughout his life.
Jerry was a man of faith and an active member of Kingsway Christian Church in Avon, Indiana. In recent years, he also attended First Christian Church in Ft. Myers. His faith guided him in all aspects of his life and inspired those around him.
Beyond his professional accomplishments and military service, Jerry embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. Known affectionately as "Captain Jerry," he was an avid golfer, tennis player, boater, and fisherman who cherished time spent outdoors. His zest for life was infectious—he greeted everyone with warmth and positivity that left a lasting impression on all who met him.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Carrol A. Gowan; son David (Erika) Gowan; stepdaughters Donna Brackman, Melissa (Lance) Duke, and Jeanette Biddle; brother Gary (Chriss) Gowan; grandchildren Micah (Nathan) Gowan, Boston (Alyssa) Gowan, Ellery Gaffin, Charlotte Gaffin, Madison Duke, Nathan Duke, Alexa (James) Kelly, Andrew Biddle, Karlie Biddle, and D. Adam Biddle; great-grandchildren Crosby Kelly and Reagan Kelly; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Loren and Hulda (Heaton) Gowan; brother Norman Gowan; and sister-in-law Marie Gowan.
Jerry’s legacy is one of love and influence that will endure far beyond his days on earth. He had an extraordinary ability to connect with people from all walks of life—always greeting others with a resounding “FANTASTIC!” His kindness touched countless lives through both personal relationships and professional endeavors.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 23, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of St. James City 3417 8th Avenue. Following the service will be an at sea burial. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Wounded Warriors.
