

George was born on December 20, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, to August and Emma Meyer. He grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from Boys High School. A proud veteran, George answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1956.
Following his military service, George dedicated himself to protecting his home city, working as an officer with the NYPD Transit department for 21 years before his retirement.
On June 17, 1961, he married his beloved wife, Maureen, with whom he shared 65 beautiful years of marriage.
George was a man of many passions. He was best known by all who knew him for his witty storytelling, his impressive carpentry skills, and his lifelong love of golf. He had a gift for bringing laughter to any room, working with his hands, and enjoying sunny days on the golf course. More than anything, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Emma; his sister, Elsie; his brothers, Edmund, Charles, and Herbert; his sister-in-law Arlene; and his infant brother, John.
George's legacy lives on through his surviving family: his wife, Maureen; his children, Thomas (Nancy) and Christine (Eric); his grandchildren, Emily, Kailey, Jillian, Joseph, Brady, Benjamin, and Jacob; his brother, Bill; his sister-in-law Florence; and his extended family.
A celebration of George's life will be held at a future date to be determined by the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in George's memory.
A memorial services will be held in George's honor at 11am on Wednesday August 12, at St. Therese Catholic Church, located at 20115 N Tamiami Trl, North Fort Myers, FL 33903, with a reception to follow at Magnolia Landing Country Club, located at 3501 Avenida del Vera, North Fort Myers, FL 33917.
