Dorothy Ann “Dodie” Waggoner (Larson) died peacefully with her family by her side on February 8, 2024 at Hope Hospice in Naples, FL. She was born in Worthington, Minnesota July 10, 1935 to parents Henry Gordon Larson and Marcella Lorraine Larson (Eggleston).
Dodie resided at Highpoint at Cape Coral Assisted Living only after hurricane Ian displaced her from her home on Pine Island of almost 40 years.
Dodie was a beloved nurse at Cape Coral Hospital for close to 40 years. She also had a love of sailing, dancing, reading, watching her favorite sports, football and golf, a Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan. Dodie loved playing the wicked awesome ‘combat’ card game, Shanghai. Big money was on the line with siblings Marilyn, Barbie, Gordon who brought in his wife, Diane. Diane brought the combat part to the game. Stakes were high with a trophy for bragging rights! Sometimes the pot reaching as high as $2.00 per game.
Dodie loved sailing together with her husband, Paul, in Spooner, WI and the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior in Bayfield, WI. They embarked on a brave new adventure in 1978. They moved the family from Wisconsin down to Vero Beach, Florida by way of sailing in a 31’ Southern Cross sailboat that Paul built. They sailed with their 3 children, 2 of which were teenagers at the time! Now that was brave! The family settled down in Bokeelia on Pine Island in the house they had built together in 1983.
Dodie is survived by her brother Gordon Larson and wife Diane, her 3 children, Kathy Jackson, Michael Waggoner and his wife, Lynn, Steven Waggoner and his wife, Angi. Many nieces and nephews.
