Obituary of Darwin "Bud" A. Morrison Jr.
Darwin “Bud” Morrison Jr., 80, of North Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Ellsworth, ME, passed away on March 8, 2023 after 16 years battling cancer. He was born on September 30, 1942 to Abbie Hooper Morrison and Darwin Morrison Sr. He was a proud Navy Veteran, having served from 1966 until 1971. At age of 16, he began his career part time at his father’s dealership, Morrison Chevrolet. After graduating from Ellsworth High School in 1961 and Husson College in 1965, he began his full time career at the dealership. He became the third generation Morrison to serve as Dealer Principal in 1969. As Dealer Principal, he supported a wide range of charitable and educational organizations. Bud was on the Chevrolet Dealer Council 1973-1974, 1978-1979, and 1990-1991. He served on the Maine Automobile Association for 14 years and was President 1996-1997. In 2005, he was awarded the 36th annual Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award for the State of Maine. He was one of the 65 automobile dealers chosen from more than 19,500. In 2006, he was elected to the State of Maine Motor Vehicle Franchise Board by Gov. John Baldacci and re-elected by Gov. Paul Lepage in 2012. After 54 years at Morrison Chevrolet, the dealership was sold and Bud retired. He has a long history of civic and community involvement. In 1980, he was elected director of the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce. In 1983, he served as President. In 2007, the Chamber of Commerce awarded Morrison Chevrolet Business of the Year. Bud also served as treasurer of the Union River Estates. Bud loved sports all his life. He could tell you everything about the Red Sox. He also loved the water and boats. Many happy memories were on his yacht, Patricia Ann. Bud was a 60 year member of the Masons. He has been an active member of Anah Shrine for 57 years. He was Past President of the Hancock County Shrine Club, Past Director of the Convertible Unit, Past Assistant Director of the Director’s Unit, a member of the Million Dollar Club of the Anah Shrine, and a member of the ROJ Court 150 where he was Director in 2018. Bud is preceded in death by his parents, Darwin Morrison Sr. and Abbie Hooper Morrison, and brother-in-law, Robert Keenan. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Theresa; children, Lisa M. Scott and husband, Erik, Lori M. Reck and husband, Matt, and Ann B. Morrison and husband, Aaron; grandchildren, Garret and Riley Scott, and Graham and Ellie Reck; special friends, Leia and Millie; sisters, Marcia Keenan, and Patricia Boles and husband, Fay; sister-in-law, Susan Belanger; and many nieces and nephews and extended family. Bud will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be held at a later date.
