Barbara graduated from Elmira College with a business degree, where she later worked as the Assistant to the President. Barbara graduated high school at a time when girls didn’t take college a prep curriculum, so she had never taken any math or science classes, yet she completed her degree, including courses such as Statistics, with a GPA of over 3.8, while working full time and being a loving wife and mother.
Barbara was best known for her kindness, compassion, warmth, and her integrity. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her kids, but her grandchildren and great-grandchild were known affectionately as “her dividends.” She held “Grandma Camp” at the Cape Cod home for her grandchildren for many years and took great joy in reading to and playing with them.
Her favorite place was with her family. She also loved being at either “the lake” in Pennsylvania where her parents had a cottage and where we got lost in a huge blueberry patch, or at the lake on Cape Cod. She loved walking on any beach on Cape Cod and loved ice cream from Four Seas in Centerville. She was a huge lover of dogs and of course the Red Sox and the Patriots. She also loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, and watching Jeopardy, which she excelled at knowing the answers to.
During their retirement Barbara and her late husband George enjoyed time in the Fort Myers, FL area and Cape Cod, when they weren’t travelling to places like Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Hawaii, and Alaska to name a few.
Barbara was very civic-minded and was always giving back. She volunteered for several worthy causes, like the SPCA in upstate NY, the March of Dimes, the Jaycees, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and as a Sunday School teacher, among others.
Barbara is survived by two sisters – Linda Countryman and Jill Hoch, two children - Susan Wilson and Michael Levesque, four grandchildren - Audrey Ellis, Lindsey Levesque, Marie Wilson, and Tyler Levesque, and one great-grandson -Jackson Page.
Services will be for family and guests Cape Cod National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
