William G. Krieger passed away at his home Monday, July 21, 2025. He was born in Joliet and graduated from Joliet Catholic High School in 1958. He was a longtime resident of Elk Grove Village for over 50 years.
Bill is survived by his three sons: William T. and Brian, from his marriage to Nancy Page, and Mark (Heather), from his marriage to Elaine Raboine; as well as his grandchildren: Holly (Ed), Ty, Connor (Kristen), Jackson and Griffen; and great-granddaughter, Mira. In addition to his immediate family, he loved all of his cousins: Karen, Kim, Kathy, Jim, Bill, Dan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elinor Krieger; and his wife, Elaine.
Bill was an early pioneer of business computing. Beginning in the 1960s, Bill got started on IBM systems, writing programs on punch cards and hand wiring system boards. By the time he retired, the internet was in full swing (and still operating after the Y2K panic) and he had become the Vice President of his department. He worked at several companies over the years, but none were more significant than the nearly 30 years he spent at Weber-Stephen Products. It was there that Bill truly found a professional home. His hiring manager Len, the Stephen family, and many of his employees became lifelong friends. Weber became just as much a part of him as his family (and his cars).
Bill’s passion with autos began at an early age with the purchase of a1929 Model A from his friend, Jim Scholtes. This would be further fueled when a neighbor asked Bill to take care of his 1957 Fairlane convertible while on a week-long vacation. This passion never ceased. Bill collected several classic cars over the years that he took to countless shows, which won many awards. He participated in several clubs, mainly the Northern Mustang Corral where he wrote their newsletter for around 20 years. In his “retirement” he spent much of his time as a car appraiser, traveling all over the Midwest.
He was introduced to snow skiing by his wife, Elaine in 1968. This became a much loved hobby that lasted far longer than his efforts in tennis and jogging. He loved going on trips to Snowmass, Colorado and Lake Tahoe with family.
He will be sorely missed.
-Bill, Mark, Brian
