Dr. Richard Johnston took his final flight to the great beyond, leaving behind a life well-lived and a legacy of warmth and wisdom. Born in Columbus, OH, he cruised through North High School in the 1950s, soared through Ohio State University College of Medicine in the 1960s (with honors, of course), and landed his career as a pathologist just five years later. Dr. Johnston was a man of many passions, including a love for medicine, a knack for teaching lab techs, a devotion to his church, and an impressive skill at the piano. He had a standing date with classical music, dabbled in languages for fun, relished time on the Texas coast, and flew his trusty Cessna 210 like a true aviation enthusiast.
As a dad, he was easygoing, warm, and always up for an adventure. His children—Katherine, Jennifer, Eleanor, Margaret, and Richard—will fondly remember the times he whisked them away to the Texas coast or flew them to various events. As a granddad to nine and step-grandpa to four, his enthusiasm and gentle nature left an indelible mark on everyone in his family. His wife, Joyce, who was right there by his side, will forever cherish the remarkable journey they shared.
Friends and family remember him as a brilliant mind with a photographic memory, always ready with sage advice and a helping hand. Though we’ll miss him deeply, we know he's found new skies to explore.
