She was born on April 26th, 1939 in Waukegan, IL where she grew up as the youngest of 3 children of John and Margaret Sick.
Ginny graduated from Miami (OH) University in 1961 with degrees in Political Science and Education, and received her Masters in Social Work from New York University in 1986.
After raising her 3 children as a stay-at-home mom, Ginny returned to work as a Social Worker and Family Therapist.
Ginny lived a full, active, and rich life despite being afflicted with Type 1 diabetes at a young age. She showed remarkable resilience and perseverance and never let the disease define her as she set an inspiring example of living life fully for her children and grandchildren.
Ginny loved traveling, a passion that grew in her when, as a teenager, she was selected to represent the United States on a mission trip to Europe with 80 other high schoolers during the early 1950’s. Ginny was also a lover of the North Woods of Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan having spent most summers of her life in a family cabin on Moon Lake in Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin. She instilled this love of the North Woods in her children and grandchildren who continue to visit the area to this day. She was also an avid golfer and card player and enjoyed all forms of competition with her children and grandchildren. She and her husband, Bill, enjoyed entertaining friends and family and were famous for their themed parties and gatherings, always with plenty of wine & beer for all.
She is survived by her loving older brother, John Sick, her children Bill (Tara), Jeff (Beth), and Bryn (Ryan), and her 10 grandchildren who she enjoyed spoiling: Jack, Emily, Tyler, Mary Anne, Daniel, Katie, Drew, Ben, Ava, Sara. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who were all important people in her life.
Ginny is preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret, sister Marcia, and Bill, her loving husband of 53 years.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers in Florida and Illinois who supported Ginny during the later years of her life for the care and compassion they showed her in her final days.
Services and Interment alongside Bill will follow at a date to be determined at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
