William Bien "Pap"

William James Bien, 78, of Bristol, passed away on February 14, 2021. William was best known as simply Pap or Pap-Pap: a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Born in Hannastown, PA to the late John and Helen (Prockup) Bien, William joined the US Air Force right out of high school. After his time in the Air Force, he joined the ranks as a coal miner in local Pennsylvania mines. William met his loving wife, Judith, in 1971 and they married on August 29, 1972. William, Judy, and their three kids later moved to East Granby, Connecticut in 1987. William and Judy joined their middle daughter Kelli in Waterbury and moved to Bristol, Connecticut in 2018. A lover of all good things, William always had a Werther’s handy to satisfy his sweet tooth, and his favorite chips: Lay’s Cheddar and Sour Cream. Warming up on a cold winter’s day wasn’t hard with his favorite Stew Chicken. William’s infectious laugh would be most evident after winning a hand at Shanghai rummy or spending time with his beloved grandsons, and great-grandchildren. He loved watching movies with his family, or listening to 1950’s doo-wops and his favorite activity was watching his grandsons play basketball. William’s unconditional love for his entire family will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife of almost 50 years, William is survived by his children: William James Bien, JR., of Hannastown PA, Traci Lawrence, of East Hartford and her husband Junior Lawrence, Kelli Bien of Bristol, and John Bien, of Enfield; his four grandsons: Theoleon Mason, Jr., Rashaun Mason and Jaden Pereira of East Hartford; Donyell Maxwell of Bristol, and his two great-grandchildren, Nolan Mason and Kaylee Mason; his siblings: Sharon Moore, John Bien, Nancy Eisaman, Michael Bien and Edward Bien of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; cousins: Suzanne Wayne of Reno, Nevada and Karen Wayne Easterling of San Antonio, Texas; as well as friends far and wide. All services for William are private. National Cremation Service, 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain, CT is entrusted with arrangements.
