She was born on September 25, 1939 to C. John and Francis Krzeszewski Gross and grew up in Baltimore MD with two older brothers. After attending the Catholic High School and Mt. St. Agnes College, she taught English at the Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore before putting her career on hold to marry Kenneth Gorski and having two children. After spending many years focusing on her family, she earned her master’s degree in theology at Mt. St. Mary’s Ecumenical Institute in Maryland and returned to teaching at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson MD. It is a testament to the kind of teacher that Elaine was the she made lifelong friends with students in both of her teaching positions.
In retirement, Elaine and Ken spent many years splitting time between Ocean City, Maryland and Bonita Springs, where they have resided since 1995. In Ocean City, Elaine, an avid reader and seashell collector, pursued her love of tennis, crab feasts, water aerobics with the Montego Bay gals, and nightly card games with good friends. In Florida, Elaine enjoyed dance parties and bridge games with friends, cheering on the Ravens, and her ever growing passion for golf. She was especially proud of the two hole-in-ones that she achieved on their home course in Worthington.
Elaine was preceded in death by her brothers Robert Gross and Richard Gross (Dorothy) and is survived by her husband of 61 years, Kenneth Gorski, son Joseph Gorski of San Diego CA, daughter Patty Harris (George) of Williamsburg VA, and two granddaughters who she loved very much—Rachel Pratt (Jonathan) and Jenny Harris, both of Richmond VA. In addition, Elaine is survived by a sister-in-law, Jean Gross of Wilmington DE, as well as beloved nieces Cathy, Paula, Jacki, Lauren, and nephew Rob.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, where Elaine was a dedicated parishioner, on Thursday, December 14th at 10am. Friends are invited to stop in to visit with the family at a reception at Worthington Country Club from noon-2pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider performing a random act of kindness to a stranger (or donate to a charity of your choice) in Elaine’s memory.
