

Jean was born October 6,1939 in Selma, North Carolina to Joseph and Dorothy Godwin.
Jean was blessed with a life of national and international travel. She was a diplomat for the United States in her early years as a young wife and mother. She continued her education receiving her BA in Sociology from Hiram College in 1995. Jean was an assistant to the president of the Laurel School as well as holding the same position with GOJO industries before retiring and moving to Naples, Florida.
Jean discovered a passion for the outdoors and a true love of botany that lead to a career with the Naples Native Plant Society acting as president for nearly 12 years. She also spent much of her time helping organizations in the greater Naples area including NonProfit Solutions Consulting, Friends of Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center, Shy Wolf Sanctuary, Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples and the Naples Botanical Garden with membership and fundraising support.
Jean was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, great aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. Jean is survived by her sister Rebecca (Carey) Godwin; children, Dawn (Rick) Gotliebowski; Marcia (Dave) Eisen; Greg (Pam) Roche; grandchildren, Brannan, Shannan (David), Jarred (Taylor), Amanda, Jack, Colin, Cailor, Cynthia and Cheryl (Steve), great grandchildren, Micah, Lillian, Leila, Madelyn, Isabella, Josie and Juliana; aunt to Ashton (Stephanie); great aunt to Joseph and Laurel.
She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Dorothy Godwin, her brothers J and Dickey Godwin and her husband, Walter Carter.
In honor of Jean’s wishes, there will be no services. May her memory live on through those who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.
