

Shirley Irene Toney passed away on July 4, 2022, at the age of 82 at Pacifica Senior Living in Sunrise, Florida, with her husband and daughter by her side. She was born on October 19,1939 in Painesville, OH and grew up in Norwalk, OH.
Shirley attended Norwalk High School. Shirley started working immediately after high school and continued until she retired. She started as an Ohio Bell telephone operator then at Fanny Farmer Candies in Norwalk. After moving to Sandusky, OH she worked as a Crib Attendant at New Departure Hyatt Bearings Division of General Motors for 24 years until retirement.
After retiring, Shirley and Jack moved to their favorite vacation spot, Las Vegas for 7 years where they enjoyed the warm desert climate and casino games Blackjack and Dollar Slots. They moved to Pompano Beach, FL for 7 years, then to the Kings Point Community in Sun City Center, FL for 16 years. They had recently moved to Pacifica Senior Living in Sunrise, FL in June 2022.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Cleetus B. Witter and Marguerite May (Murphy) Witter Marble; sisters Marjorie Lundell of Norwalk, OH; Rosemary Martin of Sandusky, OH; Ethel Airwyke of Binghamton, NY; and brothers Robert Witter of Sandusky, OH; Paul Witter of Norwalk, OH; Richard Witter of Bellevue, OH.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jackie D. Toney of Sunrise, FL; daughter Michelle Toney of Plantation, FL; son Michael Toney of Lakeland, FL; siblings Dorothy Foreman Paul of Shelby, OH; Cleetus Witter, Jr. of Berlin Heights, OH; Rodger Witter of Berlin Heights, OH; Darlene Witter- Krieger of Wakeman, OH; two grandchildren, Katie Toney of Pembroke Pines, FL; Kara Toney of Dresden, OH; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Shirley was known for her kindness, beauty, style and sense of humor. She was often the life of the party and is remembered for tantalizing dance moves in her youth and a uniquely entertaining way of telling a joke. Her rendition of the classic “The New Blue Cheer” is not to be forgotten.
The family would like to thank LifePath Hospice of Tampa, FL and Vitas Healthcare hospice of Miramar, FL for the compassionate caregiving they provided to Shirley in her final days.
A memorial service will be held in Sandusky, OH for Shirley’s family and friends at a later date that has yet to be announced.
