Muriel Michaud Welch, loving widow, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully in hospice care in the presence of her family on May 28, 2022. She was 90 years old. Muriel is survived by her children, Bobby Welch, Deni Welch, Janet Leroux, and Jackie Brown, and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Born to Arthur and Marie Michaud on May 4, 1932, Muriel grew up in the small town of Madawaska, Maine. It was there that she met her lifelong sweetheart and our father, Robert “Bob” Welch, who was stationed at nearby Loring Air Force Base. They were married on August 4, 1951, remaining together for nearly 68 years until Bob’s passing in May 2019.
Affectionally known as “Moo” or “Ma Moo,” the simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Muriel. She loved quiet evenings with friends and family, complete with a glass of wine (or two) in hand. She loved listening to music, especially Frank Sinatra, who was her all-time favorite, and playing Rummy Q.
While Muriel remained active in her retirement, the loss of Bob was difficult. She dearly missed him and often reminisced about the times and laughs they shared. While we are grieving her loss, we take comfort in knowing that Bob and Moo are together again.
The family will celebrate Muriel’s life with a private ceremony, and she will be interred alongside her beloved husband at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida. In place of sending flowers, the family invites you to make an online donation in her honor at VITASCommunityConnection.org.
