

He was born on February 1, 1946, in Akron, Ohio. He graduated high school in 1964 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the early 1980’s and among other professions, he managed the Longfellow House Hotel & Restaurant for many years and was a consummate salesman until Hurricane Katrina flooded his home in Gautier, MS in 2005. At that time he & Rochelle moved to Pace, Florida where he attended Christ Methodist Church in Milton. Richard was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and also served in Vietnam. He had a passion for woodworking, taking pride in working with his hands and creating things. He also loved playing cards where his competitive spirit and sense of humor always made an appearance.
He was proceeded in death by his father, Glenn Royal King, and his mother, Jean Haskins King, his brothers, John King, Robert King, and William King, his daughter, Kim King Isaacson, and his son, Jeffrey King. Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Rochelle Tate King, by his sons, Chris King of Pace, Florida and James King of Gautier, Mississippi, his daughters, Dawn Willis (Steven) of Theodore, Alabama, Abby McCain Browne (Jonathan) of Pace, Florida and Emily McCain Higdon (Billy) of Pascagoula, Mississippi. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Wayne Thompkins, Shelby Thompkins, Hannah Thompkins, Amber King, Josh King, Brittany King, Elizabeth Pepper, Haleigh Edwards, Keri Anderson, Jasmine Slater, Ariana King, Addyson King, Kaitlynd Holston, Dawson Gates, Dayla Logan, Maddy Jones, Stephen Browne, Jonas Shubert, Grace Higdon, Claire Higdon and William Higdon as well as 25 great-grandchildren. Arrangements-Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Christ Methodist Church in Milton, Florida on Monday, September 14, 2026 at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Christ Methodist Church in Milton, Florida in his honor.
