It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life richly lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Hoyt “Lester” Baldwin on September 8, 2026, at Vitas, Sacred Heart Hospital. He was surrounded by the warmth and love of his cherished family. Born on April 23, 1941, in the welcoming community of Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama, Lester was the beloved son of Hoyt and Kattie Baldwin. From his earliest days, he embodied the strong, compassionate spirit of his parents — values that shaped his entire life. Lester was a devoted husband to Edna, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage filled with love, partnership, and unwavering commitment. He is survived by his loving wife, Edna R. Baldwin, his sister Margie Ruth Baldwin Williams, and his children:
Debbie Wood (Joey), Rhonda Gordon (Eddie), Penny Eargle (Scott), Pamela “Nikki” Lyke (Gary), Nancy Moore, Samuel Moore (Angela), and John W. Moore IV (Lorena), along with his nieces and nephews.
His legacy of love continues through his 11 grandchildren and 7 great‑grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy. An avid softball player, Lester’s passion for the sport was remarkable. He continued to play actively until the age of 82, a testament to his enthusiasm, determination, and love for the game. Whether on the field or in the stands, he shared countless memories with his family — moments they will carry with them forever.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Hoyt T. Baldwin and Kattie Mae Thomas Baldwin, his brother Jerry G. Baldwin, his great‑granddaughter McKayla Lyke, and his grandson Tyler Jesse Moore. A service to honor Lester’s life will be held on September 15, 2026, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m., at National Cremation & Burial, located at 5641 HWY 90, Milton, FL 32583. This will be a time to celebrate the vibrant life he led and the love he so generously gave. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a charity of your choice. The Baldwin family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Hillary White for her compassionate care, as well as the dedicated staff at Vitas at Sacred Heart Hospital. Special thanks are offered to Vitas staff Lynda, Chaplain Andy, Cassandra, Taylor, Gina, Cheryl, Ashley, Virginia, and Jennifer, whose kindness and support during his home care were invaluable.
