With heavy hearts, yet with the hope found in Jesus Christ, the family of Cathy Elaine Johnson announces her passing on June 10, 2026. Cathy passed peacefully in her sleep, with her family and dog close by. Born on October 28, 1955, in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Cathy spent many years in Suffolk, Virginia before moving to Pace, Florida in 2015 following the passing of her mother. For the last eleven years, she lived just down the road from her daughter and family, a blessing that allowed them to share countless cherished moments together. Above all else, Cathy loved Jesus Christ with all her heart. Her faith was not simply something she believed, it was the foundation upon which she built her life. She faithfully attended Woodbine Baptist Church, where she formed many treasured friendships and found great joy in worship, fellowship, and serving the Lord. She trusted God through both the joys and hardships of life and looked forward to the day she would see her Savior face to face. On June 10, 2026, that faith became sight. Cathy worked in banking before leaving her career to care for her mother, Katherine Pond, in her later years. Caring for others came naturally to Cathy. She had a servant’s heart and devoted herself wholeheartedly to the people she loved. She was a devoted daughter, a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a faithful friend. She treasured time spent with family and friends, enjoyed watching the birds from her yard, loved her church family dearly, and adored her little dog, Schatzi.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine Pond and Cleveland Johnson, and by her grandson, Dakota, whom she loved deeply and carried in her heart every day. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now home with the Lord she loved so faithfully and reunited with Dakota. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Tami Smith, and son-in-law, Matt Smith, of Pace, Florida; her grandson, Noah Smith; her dear friend, Lee Carr; her cherished friends, Shelba and Julia, along with many other dear friends and church family; her sister, Lisa Johnson; her brother, Lewis Johnson and wife Debbie; her niece, Mallory; her nephew, Josh; her beloved dog, Schatzi; and many others whose lives were touched by her kindness, faith, and love.
While her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in the assurance that this is not goodbye forever. Because of her faith in Jesus Christ, they know she is now healed, whole, and at peace in the presence of her Savior. Her greatest joy was Jesus, and now her faith has become sight.
Services will be held at Woodbine Baptist Church, 4912 Woodbine Road, Pace, Florida 32571. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Memory Park Cemetery, 5641 Highway 90, Milton, Florida 32583.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Woodbine Baptist Church in Cathy’s honor.
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.”
