William Leslie Petties, age 76, passed away on February 27, 2026. Born on September 28, 1949, near Erie, Pennsylvania, William was a kind-hearted, adventurous man whose life was marked by devotion to family, pride in service, and a spirit that never stopped moving forward. After this introduction, he will be remembered affectionately as “Peg Leg.”
Peg Leg was the oldest of three children and grew up in Buffalo, New York, alongside his brothers, George Petties (Swain Dog) and James “Jamie” Petties. He attended Catholic schools during his youth and later obtained his college degree in Buffalo, NY. He went on to work on the assembly line at Ford Motor Company in Buffalo, building an honest life through steady work and determination.
Peg Leg also served his country in the United States Army as an SP4. During the Vietnam War, he was a proficient Marksman and was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Marksman M-14 Medal. He was honorably discharged at Fort Lewis, Washington, a chapter of his life that reflected both courage and commitment.
In his personal life, Peg Leg found joy in the open road and the freedom of two wheels. He loved riding his motorcycle and traveled widely—riding his bike everywhere he could. He was the founder of The Afro Dogs Motorcycle Club Chapter in Buffalo, NY, and he carried that brotherhood with pride. He also enjoyed fishing and, as those close to him knew well, he loved beautiful women.
Peg Leg’s legacy lives on through his children: Lisa Johnson, Teena Jones, Anthony Fugate, Tremaine Jacobs, Jermaine Jacobs, William Petties Jr., Leslie Petties, Trevon Petties, and Dwayne Terry (Man). He is also remembered with love by a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins who will continue to cherish his memory.
Special thanks are extended to Lisa K Boyle and John Nelson for the love, friendship, and joy that they brought to Peg Leg’s life.
He loved his family and friends, and his words remain a lasting farewell: “Peace and love to all and I'll see you all again” and “To all the Afro Dogs, I'll always be riding with you.”
